I am a freelance web designer, but I am always open to a permanent position with the right organization. Though I have a background in computer hardware and system administration, I have always had a strong interest in web design. I have been building web sites for many years - long before I decided to do it professionally.
I hand code everything I do, and I strive for standards compliant cross browser XHTML and CSS with a touch of unobtrusive Javascript. I deal mostly with small static sites, but I have also developed the front end for larger dynamic sites or web applications that used technologies like PHP and JSP. I personally use a bit of PHP for navigation and other functionality. I often use programming frameworks such as jQuery, Prototype, and PEAR in building my projects. I can produce simple Adobe Flash animations, but tend to use it more for accents rather than complete sites.
I have experience working with a variety of project types and sizes. I've done small sites where I was responsible for every aspect of the design. On the other hand, I've been on projects where I was part of a small group working together with input from many other stakeholders. I'll work with a client to produce anything they desire, but my designs tend to be simple, clean, and provide an intuitive user experience.
I have a passion for web design, and I enjoy sharing that with my clients.
In the fall of 2006, I got my first SLR camera - a Nikon D80. Since then, I have enjoyed teaching myself a little bit about photography and trying to capture the world around me. I certainly have a lot of room for improvement, but I really think my photos have improved over the past few years. I enjoy trying new things, and I have a long and ever expanding list of projects that I want to try. That list is rivaled in size by all the equipment and gadgets I'd like to get my hands on.
